Lagos Court Jails Woman for Impersonating NAFDAC Official

Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a Lagos-based woman, Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi, for impersonating an official of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in connection with a visa fraud scheme.

The judgment, delivered on April 14, 2026, followed her prosecution by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The case was initiated after a petition from the British Deputy High Commission raised concerns about fraudulent activities tied to international travel documentation.

According to findings from the investigation, the defendant falsely presented herself as a NAFDAC official in order to gain credibility and facilitate a visa racketeering operation.

During the trial, the prosecution team, led by Yvonne William-Mbata, presented evidence showing that the defendant deliberately misrepresented her identity and benefited from the fraudulent scheme.

Balogun-Okedeyi pleaded guilty to the amended charge, which expedited the court proceedings.

A prosecution witness, identified as Mr Onyema, provided further insight into how the fraud was carried out, explaining the role the impersonation played in misleading authorities and victims.

The defendant was represented in court by Mrs Grace Adenubi of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria.

In her ruling, Justice Dada sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment, with an option of paying a ₦500,000 fine. The court also ordered her to undertake community service within the court premises.

Additionally, she was directed to enter into a bond to maintain good behaviour.
