U.S. President Donald Trump has offered a glimpse into the type of leadership he envisions for Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a Thursday interview with NBC News, Trump expressed his desire for a “good” leader to take the helm, while making it clear that he wants to see the current leadership framework completely dismantled.
The President also revealed that he already has potential candidates in mind to lead the Islamic Republic, though he kept their identities under wraps.
“We want to go in and clean out everything,” Trump said. “We don’t want someone who would rebuild over a 10-year period.”
“We want them to have a good leader. We have some people who I think would do a good job,” he added, declining to name anyone.
These comments follow the recent joint military operation by the United States and Israel, which resulted in the death of Ali Khamenei
