Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for Oyedele, Magnus Abe

President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, a position previously held by Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.

Additionally, Tinubu has tasked the Senate with confirming former Rivers South-East senator, Magnus Abe, as the chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

These requests were conveyed in separate letters read during a plenary session by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

Tinubu urged the Senate to review and approve Oyedele’s nomination as part of ongoing adjustments within the Federal Executive Council.

Oyedele, who hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, previously served as the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. In this role, he spearheaded significant reforms aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.

The 50-year-old is recognized as an accomplished economist, accountant, and public policy expert.

The President also sent a letter to the Senate, seeking the screening and subsequent confirmation of Abe as the chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. This nomination follows the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.

Also put forward for Senate confirmation are Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Kaduna State, and Sunday Adebayo Babalola, who previously served as a deputy director at the now-defunct Department of Petroleum Resources.

Both Jezhi and Babalola have been nominated as non-executive commissioners.
