Police Warn Yobe Residents Over Criminal Disguise

The Yobe State Police Command has urged residents to stay alert and maintain a high level of security awareness across the state.

The advice was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, intelligence reports suggest that certain criminal elements may attempt to operate under disguise as petty traders or itinerant service providers moving from one community to another.

“These individuals may present themselves under the pretence of selling perfumes commonly known as “Mai Tolare,” nail cutters, pushing hand trucks, or even begging while moving from ward to ward, houses, offices, markets, and other public places.

“Such activities may be used as a cover to survey environments and identify vulnerable locations”, the Command said.

Residents were advised to be cautious of unfamiliar individuals loitering around homes, places of worship, markets, public institutions, social gatherings, and other crowded areas.

“Reports also suggest that some of these individuals may use tricycles as a means of transportation and often appear neat and decently dressed in order to avoid suspicion”, it added.

While reassuring the public not to panic, the Command encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities within their neighbourhoods to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.

“Community leaders, market associations, transport unions, and religious leaders are also encouraged to sensitise their members and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that will assist in preventing potential security threats”, the Command advised.

The police further reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security throughout the state.
