Peter Obi Says Nigeria Is Bleeding Over Insecurity

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, describing the country as “bleeding” amid ongoing attacks and killings.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi criticised the rising wave of violence across multiple states, noting that recent assurances from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have not reflected the current reality on the ground.

According to Obi, “less than 24 hours after Tinubu visited Jos, Plateau State, on April 2, 2026, and assured grieving citizens that this experience will not repeat itself, another deadly attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel community in Jos South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of several residents.”

He pointed to continued incidents in Nasarawa, Zamfara, Borno, Benue, and Kaduna states, highlighting killings, abductions, and destruction of property.

“Yet we were told, ‘This experience will not repeat itself.’ This represents a failure of leadership and responsibility, and sadly, Nigerians are paying for it with their lives,” he wrote.

Obi called for urgent action, warning that the situation has reached a critical level and requires decisive intervention.
