Grace Ike, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has called upon the Nigerian government, various institutions, and the media to actively help remove obstacles that hinder women’s advancement, especially as the world observes International Women’s Day 2026.
She conveyed this message in her International Women’s Day statement on Sunday.
Commenting on this year’s IWD theme, ‘Give To Gain,’ she emphasized that it serves as a reminder of the deliberate effort required to invest in women.
Ike, who holds the distinction of being the first female chairman of the council, highlighted the importance of translating words into concrete actions when it comes to mentoring young female journalists across Nigeria and globally.
“Governments, institutions, media organizations, and communities must work together to dismantle barriers that hinder women’s progress.
“On this special day, I celebrate the extraordinary women within the Nigerian Union of Journalists, the FCT media community, and across our nation,” she stated.
