The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has stepped up preparations for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations by deploying 1,750 personnel across the state to enhance security.
The move was announced after a strategic meeting involving senior officers of the command, where plans for the festive period were reviewed and strengthened.
Addressing the officers, the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to prioritise the protection of critical infrastructure, alongside ensuring the safety of residents.
He emphasised that the directive applies before, during, and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, stressing the need for consistent security presence throughout the period.
According to Sotiyo, “the personnel deployment forms part of a broader plan designed to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for both residents and visitors marking the end of Ramadan.”
He explained that officers have been stationed at strategic public locations such as markets, recreational centres, and other high-traffic areas considered vulnerable during the festivities.
“The officers are to be strategically positioned to maintain order and prevent any potential threats to public safety,” the Commandant stated.
He also tasked field commanders with ensuring proper supervision of personnel within their respective areas.
“As Area Commanders and Divisional Officers, you are to take full charge of your areas of responsibility and ensure strict monitoring of officers on duty,” he said.
Sotiyo further stressed the importance of professionalism and vigilance, urging officers to remain courteous while carrying out their responsibilities.
He highlighted the need for collaboration with other security agencies, noting that joint efforts would be crucial for a smooth and incident-free celebration.
“They will collaborate effectively with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration across the state,” he said.
The command appealed to community stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace, urging parents, religious leaders, and community heads to guide youths against actions that could disrupt public order.
He reassured residents of the corps’ commitment to protecting lives and property, while encouraging the public to promptly report any suspicious activities.
