Nigerian Army Introduces Performance Evaluation Framework

The Nigerian Army has stepped up efforts to improve operational efficiency and institutional performance with the introduction of a standardised evaluation framework aimed at promoting accountability and professionalism across its formations.

The development was disclosed in a press release issued on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, by Appolonia Aniele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, following a sensitisation seminar held in Abuja.

The seminar, organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Standards and Evaluation at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites in Asokoro, brought together senior officers and key stakeholders to deepen their understanding of structured performance assessment systems.

Declaring the event open, the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, who was represented by the Military Secretary (Army), Maj Gen Everest Okoro, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the Army’s pursuit of institutional excellence.

He explained that the Department of Standards and Evaluation serves as the Army’s quality control mechanism, ensuring adherence to established benchmarks, assessing combat readiness, and reviewing operational activities across various units.

“These measures are intended to identify strengths, address gaps, and ensure continuous improvement in operational performance,” the statement quoted him as saying.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, Bobby Ugiagbe, said the seminar was designed to encourage the consistent application of standards across the Army, with the goal of enhancing discipline, professionalism, and overall effectiveness.

He noted that the initiative would support the institutionalisation of performance evaluation practices, ensuring that operational outcomes are continuously monitored and improved.

The Army further stated that the programme reflects its broader commitment to embedding a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement, in line with internationally recognised best practices.
