Katsina Police Foil Bandit Attack, Arrest Suspect

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled a bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and rescuing two injured residents.

The attack occurred late Tuesday night when armed bandits invaded Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages.

Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq said officers responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, engaging the attackers in a gunfight and forcing them to retreat.

“The Katsina State Police Command has successfully repelled a bandits’ attack on Unguwar Bido and Unguwar Kanawa villages, Dandume LGA, and arrested one suspected bandit.

“On April 28th, 2026, at about 10:00 pm, a distress call was received that a large number of heavily armed bandits had invaded the villages. Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Dandume swiftly mobilised police teams and responded to the scene.

“Upon arrival, the teams tactically engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and repelled the attack, forcing the bandits to abandon their mission and flee in disarray with suspected casualties. During the operation, one of the bandits was successfully arrested.

“Unfortunately, the bandits shot and injured two residents. The victims were promptly rushed to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention and are currently responding to treatment.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Ali Umar Fage, psc(+), mnips, while commending the gallantry and prompt response of the DPO and his team, further directed a thorough investigation and manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects.
