NBA Criticises Sowore Over Courtroom Conduct in Abuja

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has criticised the actions of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, during a court session in Abuja, describing his conduct as unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NBA President, Mr. Yakubu Maikyau, said Sowore’s behaviour at the Federal Capital Territory High Court fell short of the standard expected within a courtroom setting.

He described the incident as “inappropriate and disrespectful” to the authority and integrity of the court.

Maikyau acknowledged that citizens have the right to voice their concerns but stressed that such expressions must be done within the bounds of the law and with proper respect for judicial institutions.

According to him, “any conduct capable of disrupting court proceedings or undermining the dignity of the judiciary would not be condoned”.

He also called on lawyers and the general public to maintain proper decorum in courtrooms at all times, emphasizing that adherence to the rule of law is essential for the sustenance of democracy.
