National Police Day: IGP Disu Pledges Reforms

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism and national security as the agency concluded activities for the 2026 National Police Day.

The grand finale took place at Eagle Square, where officers of the police force participated in a ceremonial parade alongside other security and paramilitary agencies.

These included the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Details of the event were shared in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Office through Anthony Placid Okon. According to him, the occasion served not only as a celebration but also as a time to reflect on the sacrifices of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Speaking during the event, the IGP described the day as an opportunity to honour fallen heroes while reinforcing core values such as discipline, professionalism, and dedication to national service.

He also stressed the importance of adopting more accountable, intelligence-driven, and community-oriented policing strategies, assuring Nigerians of ongoing efforts to strengthen public trust and improve policing standards.

Also present at the event, the Vice President praised the police force for its resilience and commitment. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to deepen police reforms, enhance operational capacity, and improve the welfare of personnel in line with broader national security goals.

The celebration featured a range of activities held across the country, including a walkathon, community service programmes, medical outreach initiatives, public awareness campaigns, and the presentation of welfare support to families of fallen officers.
