The Nigeria Police Force has pledged to push forward reforms aimed at addressing pension and welfare challenges faced by retired officers.
The development was announced in a statement released on April 14, 2026, via the Force’s official platform.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, recently met with a delegation of retired officers to discuss concerns surrounding pensions and gratuities.
He acknowledged that delays and difficulties in pension payments remain a serious issue, noting that efforts are underway to find sustainable solutions.
“The Inspector General of Police outlined two distinct avenues to ensure retirees’ grievances reach the highest levels of government,” the statement read.
Disu also assured that retirees would be free to express their concerns peacefully, with necessary security arrangements in place.
The Force further indicated it is exploring ways to create opportunities for children of retired officers during future recruitment exercises.
Reaffirming its position, the police leadership emphasized its commitment to protecting the welfare and dignity of personnel even after retirement.
