LAWMA Revokes PSP Licences in Lagos Waste Management Reform

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has taken decisive action against underperforming Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators, revoking licences and reorganising waste collection routes across key parts of Lagos.

According to Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the move follows a detailed operational assessment aimed at aligning service capacity with the realities of Lagos’ rapid urban expansion.

Several operators failed to meet required standards, prompting regulatory intervention to protect public health and maintain environmental quality.

Affected companies include Kenny JPS, Clean Craft Nig. Ltd., Doveroost Ltd., Dewayls, and Pesjoy Ventures, all of which operated across various districts such as Igando-Ikotun, Eti-Osa West, and Ejigbo.

To improve service delivery, LAWMA has also adjusted waste collection routes in fast-growing areas. While some existing operators will retain portions of their coverage zones, additional providers have been introduced to strengthen performance and expand reach.

“Operators affected by the route realignment include Shekaz Global Ltd. (Isolo, Ishaga/Ire Akari axis) and Krestabol Waste Management (Ikorodu, Lowa),” he said.

In areas where population growth has outpaced a single operator’s capacity, responsibilities have been redistributed to ensure prompt waste collection. Some operators also voluntarily gave up parts of their routes to allow for better service allocation.

“Operators in this category include Ayolade Oluwabukola Enterprises (Lagos Island East, Ajele axis) and Imperium Waste Services (Ayobo/Ipaja, Slot B),” he added.

The restructuring effort is part of a broader push to strengthen oversight, improve accountability, and ensure waste management systems evolve alongside Lagos’ rapid development.

Residents are advised to cooperate with newly assigned PSP operators and to work exclusively with LAWMA-approved providers, as the agency intensifies monitoring and enforcement efforts.
