The proprietor of Daarulkitab Islamic Training Centre in Kogi State, Mohammed Tajudeen, has rejected claims by the state government that the institution is unregistered.
His response follows the abduction of 26 persons, including pupils and staff, during an attack on the school and its orphanage facility on Sunday night.
The Kogi State Government had earlier described the school as unregistered while reacting to the incident.
However, Tajudeen insisted the institution operates legally, stating that it is registered with both the Corporate Affairs Commission and the state Ministry of Women Affairs.
“I have documents to back our registration. Daarulkitab was registered separately,” he said.
Security agencies have since rescued 17 of the abducted victims, while efforts continue to free those still in captivity.
Tajudeen disclosed that seven students and two matrons remain with the kidnappers, adding that his two wives were also taken during the attack.
