Jigawa SUBEB Reveals J-TEACH Exam Details

A total of 19,966 applicants have applied for the Jigawa State J-TEACH Batch C programme, with only 4,000 candidates expected to make the final shortlist.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Haruna Musa, during an interview with Freedom Radio, where he spoke about the upcoming screening process.

Prof. Musa explained that the J-TEACH programme is a mandatory two-year teaching initiative aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills for the classroom. He added that those who successfully complete the programme may eventually be absorbed into permanent teaching positions.

According to him, the initiative is designed to improve the overall quality of teachers across Jigawa State.

Providing a breakdown of applicants, he stated:
“breakdown of the applicants shows 7,450 single males, 5,433 married males, and 2,503 single females, while figures for married female applicants are still being compiled.

“15,285 candidates have been slated to sit for the recruitment examination scheduled for Thursday, April 2, 2026, across eight designated centres”

The examination will be conducted at several locations, including three centres within the Federal University Dutse, Sule Lamido University in Kafin Hausa, Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic in Hadejia, the Jigawa State College of Education in Gumel, as well as additional centres in Kazaure and Babura.

He further noted that not every applicant will be required to sit for the test. About 4,681 individuals will proceed directly to the screening stage without writing the examination, while the data of 4,444 previously registered candidates will be carried forward.

In addition, candidates who participated in earlier recruitment exercises but were not selected due to limited vacancies in their local government areas will not need to retake the exam, as their earlier results will be reconsidered.

Prof. Musa also revealed that 102 candidates who were previously recruited but had issues with their documentation would be given another opportunity to undergo verification.

He cautioned applicants against presenting fake credentials, emphasizing that anyone found guilty would face legal action.

According to him, the programme forms part of the state government’s broader plan to tackle the shortage of teachers and enhance the education system in Jigawa State.
