Israel Confirms Missile Launch from Yemen

The Israeli military has confirmed that a missile was launched from Yemen toward its territory, raising fresh concerns after threats from Iran-backed Houthi forces to join the ongoing conflict.

In a military communiqué, officials stated that Israeli forces had “identified the launch of a missile from Yemen directed at Israeli territory, and aerial defense systems are actively engaged to intercept the threat.”

This is the first official confirmation of a missile launch from Yemen since the war began, which is now entering its second month.

The announcement, made early Saturday, follows reports from the previous day that Iran had carried out multiple missile strikes targeting Tel Aviv. The attacks, said to involve at least five missiles within a five-hour period, triggered air defense responses and warning sirens from late Friday into Saturday.

The latest development marks a significant escalation, as it is the first time Yemen has been directly linked to a missile launch in the current conflict. It comes shortly after the Iran-aligned Houthi group declared on Friday that it was prepared to act if what it described as an escalation against Iran and the “axis of resistance” continued.

The possible involvement of the Houthis adds another layer of complexity to the situation, increasing fears of a broader regional conflict.

The group has previously demonstrated its ability to strike targets far beyond Yemen and disrupt key shipping routes across the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea actions it carried out in support of Hamas in Gaza after October 7, 2023.

Meanwhile, Iran’s allies in Lebanon and Iraq have already joined the conflict, which was triggered by joint U.S. and Israeli strikes on Tehran about four weeks ago.
