Iran Warns UN Security Council Over Hormuz

Iran has warned the United Nations Security Council against taking what it described as “provocative action” over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said any such move could escalate tensions, particularly amid discussions around a proposed resolution to protect shipping routes in the region.

“Any provocative action by the aggressors and their supporters… will only complicate the situation,” he said.

The warning came ahead of a planned Security Council vote on a draft resolution authorising a protective force for vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. However, the vote was later postponed indefinitely.

The waterway, a key route for global energy supplies, has faced major disruption since strikes were launched by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28.

The draft resolution, introduced by Bahrain and backed by the US and some Gulf states, proposed the use of defensive force to secure shipping. However, it faced opposition from countries including Russia, China, and France.
