The IGP, Tunji Disu has assured residents of Kwara State and Nigerians that security agencies are committed to reclaiming communities currently under threat from terrorists.
Disu gave the assurance on Monday during an operational visit to the Nigeria Police Force command in Ilorin, where he met with key stakeholders to review strategies aimed at addressing insecurity.
He explained that the visit was intended to engage critical stakeholders while also assessing security strategies designed to tackle emerging threats in the state.
The Inspector-General urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, stressing that joint efforts remain essential in the fight against insecurity across the country.
“I am in Kwara to meet stakeholders and discuss ways to tackle terrorists tormenting our people.
“Criminals cannot drive us from our communities. We are determined to take back our communities from terrorists.
“I know Kwara and the efforts you have been making. We will continue working together to ensure these criminals are defeated,” he said.
The police chief also assured that the welfare of officers within the force would remain a priority during his tenure.
He added that additional security operations would be introduced to rebuild public confidence and maintain Kwara’s reputation as a peaceful state.
Disu further cautioned against profiling cattle rearers, noting that not all Fulani herders should automatically be labelled as criminals.
He encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious activities or credible intelligence to security agencies to enable swift action.
Meanwhile, the Adekimi Ojo commended the Inspector-General for selecting the state for his first operational visit after assuming office.
“We are grateful the I-G chose Kwara for his first operational visit. We will continue to cooperate to achieve lasting peace in the state,” Ojo said.
