Kwara Delegation Meets IGP Over Rising Insecurity

A delegation from Kwara South and the Igbomina community has met with the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, in Abuja to push for urgent action against worsening insecurity in the region.

The meeting, held at the Force Headquarters, brought together community representatives, police officials, and security experts to explore practical solutions to banditry and other criminal threats.

Leading the group, Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, Coordinator of Joint Security Watch Kwara South, said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between local stakeholders and the police.

He acknowledged ongoing efforts by security agencies but called for more decisive interventions, especially in areas facing repeated attacks.

Oyin-Zubair cited troubling cases where kidnappers continued to hold victims even after ransom payments, including an incident in Omugo community where families reportedly paid about N20 million along with food items and motorcycles without securing the victims’ release.

“Our mission is to appreciate the efforts of the police and also assure them of our continued support as stakeholders. We are committed to complementing government efforts in restoring peace to our communities.”

Discussions focused on improving intelligence gathering, boosting tactical operations, and deploying technology such as aerial surveillance to track criminal activity in remote areas.

Stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for the Kwara State Government under AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, expressing hope that the engagement would lead to stronger security presence and coordinated action across vulnerable communities.
