IED Blast Injures Soldier, NSCDC Officer in Imo

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast has left a soldier and a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) injured in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The development was revealed by a counter-insurgency and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, via a post on X.

Makama stated that the incident happened around 8:35am on March 18 during a joint operation involving troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in the Orsu general area.

According to the report, the operatives were conducting activities near a suspected hideout linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), when they unknowingly triggered a concealed pressure-activated IED.

The explosion went off, leaving both personnel with injuries.

“They were immediately administered first aid and subsequently evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.

“Operations are ongoing in the area to dismantle criminal hideouts and enhance safety,” the source said.
