The Oyo State Government has stepped up efforts to improve environmental sanitation in Ibadan, with officials inspecting ongoing refuse evacuation across major roads, including the Iwo Road axis.
Commissioner for Environment, Ademola Aderinto, said the situation was caused by “an unfortunate consequence of non-compliance with environmental sanitation laws” by residents.
He warned that indiscriminate waste disposal is contributing to flooding, environmental hazards, and poor public health.
“Indiscriminate dumping not only defaces the state but also diverts scarce resources meant for infrastructure and social development,” he added.
The government urged residents to work with accredited waste collectors and warned that strict enforcement of sanitation laws will follow the clean-up exercise.
