An explosion occurred at the United States Embassy in Oslo, Norway, early Sunday morning, according to official reports, though no casualties have been confirmed.
Oslo police reported that the blast took place at approximately 1:00 a.m. local time, resulting in damage to the entrance of the embassy’s consular section.
The event follows a series of recent missile and drone strikes by Iran targeting U.S. and allied interests in the Gulf region, including locations near Doha, Qatar, as part of Tehran’s response to American and Israeli military actions.
Police incident commander Michael Dellemyr informed the Norwegian broadcaster NRK that authorities received numerous reports of a powerful explosion before reaching the embassy grounds.
“At around 1:00 a.m., we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly afterwards and confirmed that it had impacted the U.S. embassy,” Dellemyr said.
He characterized the resulting damage as minor and stated that it was premature to identify the specific cause of the detonation.
“We are not commenting on the type of damage or what caused the explosion at this stage, as the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
Dellemyr later indicated to TV2 Norway that investigators are looking into the possibility that the explosion was an intentional act.
Law enforcement officials are currently questioning witnesses, and specialized bomb disposal units have been sent to the scene as part of the heightened security protocols.
