A powerful explosion has reportedly struck a major airport in Tehran after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched strikes targeting what it described as regime infrastructure in Iran.
According to BBC, the blast appeared to be part of a large-scale attack on one of Tehran’s principal commercial airports.
Reports indicated that burning aircraft and thick plumes of smoke were seen at Mehrabad Airport, which serves as Iran’s busiest domestic aviation hub.
Satellite images captured on Friday showed several aircraft positioned at the airport at the time of the attack, while Iranian state media also confirmed that parts of the facility had been targeted.
The development followed an earlier announcement by the Israeli military that it had begun a broad new wave of strikes against targets in the Islamic Republic.
Israeli forces had earlier targeted Mehrabad Airport in Tehran on March 4 as part of their military operations against Iran.
