The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State has called on both federal and state authorities to urgently address rising hardship and insecurity affecting residents.
In an Easter message titled ‘Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate’, the state CAN Chairman, Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, urged Christians to demonstrate love and generosity by supporting widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups.
Yohanna, who also serves as the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, described Easter as a season that represents hope, renewal, and God’s enduring love, following a period of prayer, fasting, and charity.
He expressed concern over worsening socio-economic conditions and insecurity in the state, noting that the situation has led to loss of lives, displacement of communities, and disruption of farming activities.
“We urge the Federal and State Governments to do all within their powers to alleviate the sufferings of the people and bring an end to the insecurity that has ravaged our land,” he said.
The cleric also encouraged residents to remain prayerful for peace, unity, and development, while seeking divine guidance for leaders, including Umaru Bago.
“Let us pray that God grants him the grace and wisdom to vigorously pursue and actualise the ‘New Niger Agenda,’ and that ongoing projects are completed for the benefit of all,” he added.
Looking ahead, he urged citizens particularly Christians to participate actively in the 2027 general elections and called on the government to maintain inclusive governance.
He concluded by encouraging believers to embody values such as love, compassion, and selfless service as a reflection of the Easter message.
