Bayero University Kano (BUK) has announced the reopening of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) application portal for students seeking financial support for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The development was disclosed in a special bulletin released on Saturday in Kano and signed on behalf of the university registrar by Lamara Garba.
According to the university, the decision to reopen the portal followed a request by the institution’s management, aimed at giving eligible students another opportunity to complete their applications for the federal student loan scheme.
Garba explained that the reopening is intended as a final chance for students who have already completed their screening process to access the portal and finalize their applications.
“The reopening of the NELFUND portal provides a final opportunity for eligible students who have completed their screening to commence and complete their applications,” he stated.
The university announced that the application window officially opened on May 8 and will close on May 29, urging students not to delay the process.
“This reopening provides the final opportunity for eligible students who have completed their screening to visit the official NELFUND portal to commence and complete applications for both institutional charges and upkeep,” Garba added.
The university also advised applicants to carefully follow all instructions during the process and ensure all necessary documents are properly uploaded to avoid delays, errors, or possible disqualification.
Garba emphasized that students must apply for institutional charges and upkeep simultaneously, warning that separate applications may not be considered.
“Applications for institutional charges and upkeep must be submitted simultaneously, as separate applications may not be processed,” he explained.
In addition, the university cautioned students against using microfinance wallet accounts for the application process.
Applicants were also advised to use valid and accessible email addresses and ensure their passwords are safely stored, as they would be required to monitor application progress and access the portal in the future.
The institution encouraged all qualified students yet to apply to take advantage of the fresh application window before the May 29 deadline expires.
