Atiku Praises Troops for Rescuing UTME Candidates in Benue

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has applauded Nigerian security forces for their role in rescuing abducted passengers in Benue State, including candidates preparing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Atiku made his remarks in a statement posted on X on Sunday, where he commended the troops of Operation Whirl Stroke for their conduct during the operation.

He described their actions as a reflection of dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to safeguarding lives.

“The gallant troops of Operation Whirl Stroke have once again demonstrated courage, professionalism, and an unyielding commitment to the protection of innocent Nigerians,” he said.

He went on to highlight the specific rescue carried out along the Makurdi–Otukpo road, noting that the timely intervention not only saved lives but also preserved the future of young students who were among the victims.

“I commend our brave men and women in uniform for the successful rescue of the abducted passengers along the Makurdi–Otukpo road, including young UTME candidates whose futures remain bright because of this timely intervention,” Atiku stated.

“Their sacrifice and vigilance continue to inspire hope across our nation,” he added.

While acknowledging the success of the operation, the former vice-president emphasized that more needs to be done to address the broader issue of insecurity across the country. He pointed out that such incidents highlight the importance of strengthening the nation’s security framework.

“While we celebrate this success, it also reinforces the urgent need to strengthen our security architecture and ensure that every Nigerian can travel without fear,” he said.

Atiku also underscored the importance of providing adequate support and resources to security personnel, stressing that their effectiveness depends largely on the backing they receive.

“Nigeria must work and it will work when we support and equip those who stand daily in defense of our people,” he said.
