Atiku Condemns Attack on ADC Secretariat in Rivers

Atiku Abubakar has condemned the attack on the office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, describing the incident as a “dangerous development” that threatens democratic principles in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his X account on Friday, the former vice president said the attack on the ADC secretariat and its members goes beyond ordinary political rivalry, describing it as “an assault on our democracy.”

He called on the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure the protection of opposition members and their property, saying that such responsibility represents “the minimum expectation of Nigerians.”

Atiku also demanded an independent investigation into the incident to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted according to the law, warning that failure to act could encourage more attacks against opposition parties.

He further referenced another unresolved attack involving ADC leaders, including Peter Obi, which occurred in Benin City, Edo State, noting that the outcome of that investigation is still being awaited.

“The protection of opposition members is crucial for the health of our democracy,” Atiku said, stressing the importance of accountability and adherence to the rule of law.
