Authorities in Abuja have intensified security preparations for the 2026 Easter celebrations, with the Federal Capital Territory Police Command deploying 1,803 personnel and operational resources across the territory.
According to police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the deployment covers churches, recreational centres, and other public spaces, aimed at ensuring a safe environment for residents and worshippers.
The operation includes increased visibility policing, intelligence-driven strategies, and coordinated patrols on both roads and foot, alongside continuous monitoring to quickly detect and prevent criminal activities.
“As part of the security measures, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Units have been deployed to conduct routine sweeps of major public and recreational locations to mitigate potential threats,” the statement said.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi extended Easter greetings to Christians, encouraging unity, peace, and mutual respect. He also urged residents to obey the law and called on religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The command reaffirmed its readiness to safeguard lives and property throughout the festive period while seeking continued cooperation from the public.
