The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has reported 80 road crash fatalities and the arrest of at least 11,717 traffic offenders between January and March 2026.
The Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, disclosed this on Friday, noting that the figures reflect both progress and ongoing challenges in road safety enforcement.
According to Fasakin, fatalities dropped from 98 in the first quarter of 2025 to 80 in the same period of 2026. Similarly, the number of injuries decreased from 488 to 366, while the total number of people involved in road crashes declined from 1,582 to 1,172. He attributed this improvement to intensified enforcement efforts across the state.
Despite the reduction in casualties, he expressed concern over a sharp rise in traffic violations. He revealed that detected offenses increased significantly from 7,647 in 2025 to 11,717 in 2026, with the number of offenders apprehended rising from 6,822 to 9,661.
“Statistics showed a surge in detected offenses, rising from 7,647 in 2025 to 11,717 in 2026, with the number of apprehended offenders increasing from 6,822 to 9,661,” he said.
Fasakin emphasized the importance of sustained public awareness campaigns to promote a stronger culture of road safety among residents.
He also highlighted key achievements recorded under his leadership, including the construction of a standard quarter guard and the asphalting of the command’s premises.
In addition, the sector commander called for increased funding and expanded capacity-building initiatives to further strengthen the command’s operations.
