The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate homicide cases in Damaturu.

Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim disclosed this in a statement, outlining two incidents that occurred within the state capital.

The first case took place on April 7 in the Bindigari area, where a 33-year-old man was allegedly attacked following a dispute linked to substance abuse.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Adamu Suleiman Saidu, 33, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as ‘Aljan’, 24, following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse.

“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe injuries to his head, while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight,” he said.

The victim later died at the General Hospital in Damaturu despite efforts to save him, while the suspect was arrested and the weapon recovered.

In a separate incident, police responded to a fight between two young men in Abari, reportedly triggered by a disagreement over a borrowed T-shirt.

“The dispute reportedly started over a borrowed T-shirt, which escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious,” he added.

The victim was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead. The suspect has since been arrested.
