Two Men Drown in Kwara Quarry Lake, Fire Service Recovers Bodies

Personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service have recovered the bodies of two men from a quarry lake in Opete, Asa Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, identified as Fatai Abdulrahman, 26, and Muhammed Awal, 27, were reported to have drowned in the lake.

According to the spokesperson of the fire service, Hassan Adekunle, the incident occurred at about 5:08 p.m., when firefighters were called to the scene.

“The incident involved two young men who drowned in a quarry lake. Upon arrival, firefighters conducted a recovery operation and successfully retrieved the bodies of the victims.

“The recovered bodies were subsequently handed over to Mallam Abdulfatahi for necessary arrangements,” he said.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, expressed condolences over the tragedy and warned the public against swimming or engaging in activities in quarry lakes and other unsafe water bodies.

He explained that such locations are often deep, unstable, and dangerous.

He also urged communities to restrict access to these sites and to report emergencies quickly in order to help prevent further loss of lives.
