Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have intercepted a significant cache of ammunition and suspected IED components along the Kaduna-Jos Highway.
The operation, carried out on April 16, 2026, near Boys Science Secondary School along the Manchok-Jos route in Kaduna State, followed a routine stop-and-search exercise.
According to Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, troops stationed in Manchok, supported by a Special Forces Tactical Team, intercepted a navy-blue Opel Wagon with seven occupants.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 569 rounds of 12.7mm anti-aircraft ammunition, high-velocity warheads, and 189 empty 7.62mm shells hidden inside.
Troops also recovered several disused GSM phones suspected to be used in assembling remotely detonated explosive devices.
The driver, identified as Khalifa Bawa, reportedly claimed the items were part of a delivery consignment and said he had no knowledge of their origin or destination.
“All occupants of the vehicle, along with the recovered items and the vehicle, are currently in custody for further investigation,” the statement said.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the weapons and dismantle the network behind the movement.
