Troops Foil ISWAP Attack in Borno Midnight Clash

Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted a planned attack by suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State following a fierce midnight gun battle.

According to security sources cited by analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at about 1:40 am on March 28, 2026, at Ajilari Cross.

The insurgents reportedly launched a coordinated two-pronged assault on troops who were already positioned in an ambush as part of ongoing “en masse ambush” operational directives.

Sources disclosed that the attackers attempted to overrun the troops’ position but met strong resistance from the soldiers.

“During the encounter, the terrorists attacked from two directions in a coordinated manner, but troops held their ground and engaged them effectively,” one of the sources said.

Despite the resistance, the insurgents managed to set two military platforms ablaze during the exchange of fire.

The situation, however, was quickly brought under control following the deployment of reinforcements. A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) from the Battalion Headquarters, led by the Commanding Officer, mobilised to the scene alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and Crack Squad operatives.

“The reinforcement team arrived promptly, engaged the terrorists and successfully repelled the attack,” the source added.

Following the successful defence, troops launched an exploitation operation beyond the immediate contact area to pursue fleeing insurgents and prevent any regrouping.

The source reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustained offensive and defensive operations aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities across the North-East theatre.

He also commended the ongoing collaboration between troops and local support groups, noting that it continues to enhance operational effectiveness in the fight against insurgency.
