Troops Foil Bomb Threat in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully identified and neutralised an improvised explosive device (IED) in Mairari town along the Gajiram axis of Borno State.

The development was disclosed by counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on X, where details of the operation were shared.

According to the report, the explosive device was detected at about 9 a.m. on April 17 by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and route-scanning team deployed from a Forward Operating Base in the area.

Sources revealed that “the IED was found at the edge of the town’s exit gate,” a location that could have posed a significant threat to both civilians and security personnel using the route.

Following the discovery, the EOD team carried out a controlled detonation of the device without any casualties or damage. The surrounding area was subsequently combed to ensure no additional explosives were present.

Preliminary assessments suggest that the device may have been planted by insurgents prior to the deployment of troops to the location.

While the overall security situation in the area is said to be calm, sources cautioned that it remains unpredictable, underscoring the need for continued vigilance.

Ongoing military operations, they added, are focused on securing communities and maintaining the safety of key access routes across the region.
