Troops Arrest Two Suspects With Firearm in Plateau

Two suspects have been taken into custody by troops operating under Operation OPEP following the discovery of a firearm during a routine security check in Kuru, a community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The development was shared by Zagazola Makama, a security and counter-insurgency analyst focused on the Lake Chad region, who provided details of the incident on X.

The operation reportedly took place at approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 11, when personnel from Sector 6 of Operation OPEP were carrying out standard stop-and-search duties in the area. During the exercise, the troops intercepted two individuals whose behavior raised suspicion.

A subsequent search led to the recovery of a pistol loaded with four rounds of 9mm ammunition. In addition to the weapon, the suspects were found with two mobile phones, a jackknife, and a cash sum of ₦1,700.

Security sources indicate that both individuals are now in custody, where they are being questioned. Investigators are working to determine how the suspects obtained the firearm and whether they have any connections to organized criminal groups operating within or beyond the region.
