Troops Arrest Suspect, Neutralise Informant in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian Army carried out a coordinated overnight search operation in Bama Local Government Area, resulting in the arrest of a suspect and the killing of an individual believed to be linked to terrorist activities.

The mission, which took place in the early hours of April 16, 2026 around 12:01 am, targeted multiple locations considered sensitive within the area.

According to information shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the operation involved troops from the 202 Battalion alongside personnel of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade. Their sweep covered areas including Customs, an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, and the Gwange community.

During the operation, soldiers detained a civilian after discovering military-related items in his possession. These reportedly included a soldier’s personal effects, military uniforms, a locally made Dane gun, and other materials considered suspicious.

In a related incident, troops identified a suspected terrorist informant attempting to escape from the rear section of a prison facility. Efforts to capture him did not succeed. As security sources noted, “efforts to apprehend the suspect were unsuccessful”, and he was later “neutralised”.

The arrested suspect is currently in custody, with authorities working to determine the extent of his involvement and any possible links to broader criminal or insurgent networks.

Operations in the area remain active, as security forces continue surveillance and enforcement efforts aimed at disrupting infiltration attempts and sustaining pressure on armed groups operating within the region.
