A fierce gun battle has resulted in the deaths of three bandits and two vigilantes following an attack on Bargaja village, located in the Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, during the early hours of Sunday.
According to a source, the bandits infiltrated the village around 1:30 a.m. via an outskirt route. Some attackers concealed themselves in trees near the village cemetery, while others stealthily entered a house on the outskirts, where they confronted vigilantes guarding the area.
The source explained that one vigilante was killed early in the encounter before the others returned fire, leading to the killing of three bandits.
He stated that “The attackers later pursued another vigilante hiding in a house until they killed him. The two vigilantes that died were identified as Umar Ibrahim and Abubakar Abdullahi.”
The bandits reportedly used a donkey to transport their deceased members, abandoning their motorcycles some distance away to evade detection.
This incident caused widespread panic within the community, prompting some residents to attempt to flee. However, community leaders, including the village head and security commander, intervened to calm the villagers.
DSP Ahmad Rufai, the command spokesman, confirmed that the police are aware of the attack and the casualties recorded.
