The Kano State Police Command has successfully rescued a two-year-old boy, Aliyu Muhammad, who was abducted in Kano State, following a coordinated security operation that also led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of most of the ransom paid.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the statement, the incident was reported on April 19 by a resident of Gwammaja Quarters in Dala Local Government Area, who said his two-year-old son had been taken by unknown individuals in front of their home.
The abductors later contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦1 million. Although the amount was paid, the suspects did not release the child, prompting immediate intervention by security agencies.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Anti-Kidnapping Squad to deploy all available intelligence and operational resources to track down those responsible.
The police said sustained intelligence gathering and technical efforts led to the identification of the suspects’ hideout, where three individuals were arrested.
“Those in custody are Hassan Umar, 26; Abdullahi Hamisu, 19; and Hussaini Saminu, 24, all residents of Gwammaja Quarters.”
Investigations revealed that the child was being held at the residence of one of the suspects, identified as Hussaini Saminu.
He was rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with his family.
Police also recovered ₦930,000, believed to be part of the ransom paid to the kidnappers.
The Commissioner of Police commended the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for what he described as professionalism, resilience, and tactical precision in securing the child’s release.
He also acknowledged the support and guidance from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which he said contributed to the success of the operation.
The CP warned that the state will remain hostile to criminal elements and assured that all lawful measures will be used to apprehend and prosecute offenders.
He further urged parents and guardians to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
