Police Rescue Kidnap Victim in Adamawa After Gun Battle

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Adamawa State have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim following a coordinated operation involving both police personnel and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

The rescue mission took place in a rugged terrain identified as Luru Mountain, which lies between Girei and Song local government areas. The operation formed part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.

“The raid took place at Luru Mountain, straddling Girei and Song local government areas,” the command said in a statement, adding, “On sighting the advancing team, the kidnappers opened fire, triggering a fierce gun duel.”

According to the statement, the security team engaged the suspects in a gun battle before eventually overpowering them. The kidnappers were forced to retreat into the surrounding bush, with indications that some may have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange.

The rescued victim has been identified as 42-year-old Jao Maiwule, a resident of Mitim Village in Shelleng Local Government Area. Police confirmed that he was freed without injury and has since been reunited with his family.

Further updates from the command revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, has ordered intensified operations to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Anti-Kidnapping Unit has been specifically tasked with tracking down those responsible and preventing further incidents.
