The Kebbi State Police Command has begun an investigation into the killing of a 35-year-old man and the abduction of his wife in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi in the early hours of Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement, explaining that the victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was attacked in his residence by suspected criminals.
He said detectives were immediately deployed to the scene to commence an investigation into the incident.
“The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.
His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” Usman said.
He further stated that the Kebbi Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to facilitate the safe rescue of the abducted woman and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Usman also appealed to residents to promptly report any suspicious movement or emergency situation to the police to allow for a quick response.
Mohammed Yauri, the elder brother of the abducted woman, Zainab Mohammed Yauri, told Channels Television that gunmen invaded the house, shot Garba, and abducted his wife to an unknown destination.
Garba was later buried on Friday at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites.
The incident occurred amid growing security concerns in the region, following recent attacks in neighbouring states that have resulted in several deaths and injuries.
