The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with two separate incidents involving the assault and abduction of traffic officers in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the statement, the first incident took place on April 3, 2026, at Cathedral Junction in Akure. One Olopade Abraham, who was driving a Toyota vehicle alongside Emmanuel Taiwo, reportedly violated traffic regulations by ignoring traffic lights.
A female senior traffic warden, Oliniju Kehinde, attached to ‘A’ Division in Akure, intercepted the vehicle and directed the driver to proceed to the police station.
However, the driver allegedly refused to comply and drove off with the officer still inside the vehicle, heading toward an unknown destination.
Jimoh explained that a patrol team from Fanibi Division quickly responded to the situation, pursued the suspects, and intercepted the vehicle along Ondo Road, successfully rescuing the traffic officer.
Both suspects were subsequently arrested, and the vehicle used in the incident was also taken into custody.
In a separate case on April 5, a police patrol team on routine duty at the Oba-Ile axis stopped a vehicle that was being driven against traffic.
The police said a woman identified as Mrs. Adeyanju, alongside her husband—who is currently at large confronted the officers and violently resisted arrest, leading to the assault of a police officer.
Mrs. Adeyanju was arrested at the scene and has since provided useful information to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend her fleeing accomplice.
The police confirmed that all individuals connected to the incidents have been formally charged in court, as investigations and further enforcement actions continue.
