A suspected cult clash in Abeokuta the capital Ogun state, has left one man dead, following a violent confrontation between rival groups on Sunday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred at about 2:45 p.m., took place along Wasimi Ake Road—between Centenary Hall and Lotus Bank—leading toward the Ijemo Agbadu axis.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the violence erupted when members of opposing groups engaged in a confrontation that quickly escalated.
The victim, identified simply as “Stone,” was reportedly a former leader of the Buccaneer cult group. He was said to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and machete cuts during the attack.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said a full investigation has been launched into the incident.
He noted that initial findings indicated that gunshots were heard in the area, causing panic as the suspected hoodlums clashed before fleeing through nearby streets within the Wasimi Ake–Ijemo Agbadu axis.
Babaseyi also clarified that the incident did not occur at Ake Palace and had no connection to any political event held there.
