NSCDC Arrests Four Phone Snatchers in Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the arrest of four young men suspected of robbing residents and stealing mobile phones in the Dorayi Babba area of Gwale Local Government.

According to the command, the suspects were apprehended during a regular patrol after local residents raised concerns about a group of hoodlums causing a disturbance.

In a statement issued on Friday, the NSCDC noted that a vigilant resident informed officers at a nearby post about a group of armed youths gathered near a local school.

The statement was signed by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Command, on behalf of the State Commandant.

He explained that the suspects were allegedly targeting people during Taraweeh prayers and other passers-by, stealing their personal items, including phones.

The report mentioned that NSCDC officers arrived quickly at the scene and broke up the group.

During the operation, four individuals were taken into custody: Yusuf Auwal, 18; Abubakar Abdullahi, 21; Huzaifa Ismail Aliyu, 27; and Yushau Abubakar, 17.

All four suspects are residents of the Dorayi Babba neighborhood in Kano’s Gwale Local Government Area.

Authorities stated that the arrests occurred after the suspects allegedly attacked a resident and made off with his mobile phone.

The corps also revealed that a sharp knife and two packages of marijuana were found in the suspects’ possession at the time of their arrest.

Commenting on the situation, the command noted that the suspects were engaged in activities that disrupted the peace of the community.

“Operatives on routine patrol apprehended four suspects in connection with causing public disturbance, attacks, and phone snatching at Dorayi Babba in Gwale Local Government Area,” the statement said.

It further noted that the group was caught shortly after attacking a victim and seizing his phone.

The NSCDC confirmed that the investigation into the matter has now been wrapped up.

“Investigation into the case has been concluded, and the four suspects will be charged in court,” the command said.

Security officials have encouraged the public to keep providing helpful information to security agencies to assist in fighting crime and keeping neighborhoods safe.
