A prominent mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State, has publicly refuted claims circulating on social media that unknown individuals had planted a bomb within its premises.
The mosque, widely recognized as Malam Bako Mosque, has unequivocally stated that the information spreading online is baseless and entirely false.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the mosque’s management confirmed that no such incident occurred either at the mosque itself or in its immediate vicinity.
Located in the Layin Hadiza area of Maiduguri, the mosque assured the public that its surroundings remain peaceful and secure for both worshippers and local residents.
The statement, formally titled “Official Statement from the Management of Malam Bako Mosque, Layin Hadiza,” explicitly clarified that the rumor regarding a bomb being planted in the mosque is completely untrue.
“The management of Malam Bako Mosque wishes to inform the public that the message currently spreading on social media, claiming that some people came to plant a bomb in the mosque, is completely false,” the statement declared.
It further emphasized that there has been no security incident of this nature in or around the mosque.
The mosque’s management also issued a caution against the dissemination of unverified information, which has the potential to incite fear or panic among the community.
They urged the public to disregard the misleading message and to refrain from sharing any information that has not been officially confirmed.
“We urge members of the public to disregard the message and refrain from spreading unverified information that may cause unnecessary fear and panic in the community,” the management appealed.
Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, also corroborated the mosque’s stance, describing the report as false and advising residents to remain vigilant while actively avoiding the spread of fake news.
