Zulum Issues Security Alert Ahead of Eid in Maiduguri

The Borno State Government has issued a fresh security alert to residents of Maiduguri ahead of the Eid prayers, urging heightened vigilance following intelligence reports of a possible attack.

Governor Babagana Zulum made this known during an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, revealing that security agencies have received information suggesting planned attacks within the city.

“We have intelligence that two suicide bombers may be operating in Maiduguri, and we are calling on everyone to remain alert,” the governor said.

Zulum explained that the warning comes in response to recent developments in the state, noting that insurgents facing pressure from ongoing military operations may shift focus to softer targets in an attempt to instill fear.

“Such attacks are often used as diversions when terrorists are weakened in their strongholds,” he stated.

Despite the concerns, the governor expressed confidence in the capability of security forces, assuring residents that strengthened measures have been implemented to protect the city throughout the festive period.
