The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic changes across key parts of Lagos ahead of major project commissioning events scheduled for April 8 and 9, 2026.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in the state, is expected to commission several landmark projects over the two-day period.
According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, partial road closures will be implemented in specific areas to maintain safety and ensure smooth proceedings.
On Wednesday, April 8, traffic will be affected around Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. due to the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.
The following day, Thursday, April 9, will see further disruptions. The commissioning of the Tolu Schools Complex between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. is expected to impact traffic in Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle.
Later that same day, another event scheduled between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. around Victoria Island, particularly near Eko Hotel, is likely to cause heavy traffic in the area.
To manage the situation, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed across affected routes to direct traffic and assist commuters.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with traffic officials and plan their movements ahead of time, as authorities stress that the temporary inconvenience is necessary for the successful delivery of key infrastructure projects.
