The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Taskforce) has stepped up its crackdown on illegal commercial motorcycle operators, seizing 70 motorcycles during a fresh operation along the Mile 2–Badagry Expressway.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the agency said the enforcement exercise took place around the Iyana-Iba axis, coming shortly after a similar raid conducted over the weekend—an indication of sustained efforts to enforce traffic and security regulations.
The operation covered major points along the corridor, including Festac First Gate, Mazamaza, and Iyana-Iba.
According to the Taskforce, several riders were caught operating on restricted routes and obstructing traffic. Others were allegedly involved in transporting illicit drugs and flammable substances such as petrol (PMS) to neighbouring countries, contributing to disorder on highways and adjoining roads.
“During the exercise, some commercial motorcycle operators were found plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic flow. Some of the operators were using okada to transport illicit drugs, flammable substances like PMS to neighboring countries, and generally constituting a nuisance on major highways and adjoining roads,” the statement read.
At the end of the exercise, a total of 70 motorcycles were impounded, with authorities saying normalcy had been restored in the affected areas.
“At the conclusion of the operations, a total of 70 commercial motorcycles were impounded, and sanity was restored across all affected areas,” the agency added.
The Taskforce also disclosed that all seized motorcycles would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through legal processes, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to continue the enforcement drive until full compliance is achieved.
“We will not be cowed or surrendered to their illegalities,” he said.
