The Lagos State Police Command has arrested several suspected hoodlums following a viral video showing armed youths disrupting movement along a major road in the Lekki area of Lagos.
The footage, which spread widely on Friday, captured young men running across lanes and medians, some carrying machetes and cutlasses, as motorists swerved and pedestrians fled.
The incident sparked public concern over safety in one of the city’s busiest corridors.
Responding to the situation, the police said they had acted quickly to restore order.
“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the trending video and wishes to inform the general public that it is presently on top of the situation, and necessary actions have been taken.
“Members of the public are hereby urged to remain calm, as the situation is under control,” the command said.
Providing further details, Tokunbo Wahab confirmed that a targeted operation led to arrests in the area.
“Following the videos circulating online with reports of unrest in Lekki today, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police carried out a rapid investigation and launched a sting operation between the axis, Chisco and Osakpa bus stop. This led to the successful identification and arrest of a number of hoodlums,” Wahab said.
He added that authorities remain committed to maintaining security across the state.
“The Commissioner of Police has assured law-abiding citizens that the security of their lives and properties is guaranteed under his watch,” Wahab said.
