The Kano State Police Command says it has made notable progress in tackling crime in the first quarter of 2026, following the introduction of new strategies and stronger collaboration with key stakeholders.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kano, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said the command’s efforts are already producing positive results.
He pointed to a significant drop in criminal activities across the state, highlighting key achievements recorded during the period.
One of the major successes, according to him, is the control of thuggery popularly known as Fadan Daba through a special operation tagged Operation Kukan Kura.
The command also reported success in preventing the spread of banditry into Kano, achieved through joint efforts with the state government and other security agencies.
In addition, Bakori said progress has been made in resolving recurring clashes between farmers and herders using community-based approaches.
He further disclosed that several suspects linked to crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and thuggery have been arrested and prosecuted, while stolen items and other valuables were recovered during various operations.
On the use of technology, he said: “Using open-source intelligence, we have identified suspected drug dealers and are currently profiling them with a view to taking a decisive action.”
He added: “I am pleased to announce that we have received over 2,000 names of suspected drug dealers, with some names appearing multiple times. We are currently verifying these names and will take action soon.”
Bakori explained that the command recently underwent restructuring aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery, allowing officers to respond more effectively to emerging security challenges.
He noted that the police roadmap for 2026 focuses on community policing, intelligence-driven operations, enhanced personnel training, improved cybercrime response, and stronger collaboration with other security agencies. Public awareness campaigns and targeted operations also form part of the strategy.
“While we have made significant progress, we acknowledge that there are still challenges ahead,” he said.
He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety, adding that efforts will continue to ensure Kano remains secure for both residents and businesses.
