Kano Court Grants Bail to 3 Over Defamation Case

A Magistrates’ Court in Kano has granted bail to three men accused of making defamatory remarks against Islamic scholar Umar Sani Fagge.

The defendants Adamu Adamu, Salihu Bala, and Hassan Umar appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Sa’ad Datti at Court No. 53 in Norman’s Land, where they were charged with conspiracy, defamation, and causing public disturbance.

All three pleaded not guilty, after which their counsel applied for bail. The court granted the request, setting bail at N50,000 each, with two sureties required, one a director and the other a university lecturer.

The case was adjourned to April 28, 2026, for further hearing.

The charges stem from remarks allegedly made during a political gathering in Kwaciri, where a man identified as Isyaku Mai Fenti reportedly stated that “the goat of Kwaciri is better than Malam Umar Sani Fagge,” before sharing the comment on social media.

Authorities say the suspect linked to the statement is currently at large.
